Your voice stays on your computer.
Kokukeyboard turns speech into text using a model that runs on your own machine. Your audio never reaches us, and neither does your transcribed text. This page says exactly what does leave your computer, and what never does.
Last updated: 14 September 2026
The short version. Transcription happens entirely offline on your computer. We never receive your recordings, your transcripts, or what you type. We do receive your email address and a licence key when you buy or start a trial, because that is how a licence works. We do not advertise, profile, or sell anything about you.
Who we are
Kokukeyboard is made by IMHOTEONS s.r.o., a company registered in the Czech Republic. For anything on this page, write to [email protected].
Your speech and your text
When you press your shortcut, the app records from your microphone and transcribes the audio locally using OpenAI's Whisper model, which is downloaded once and then runs on your own hardware. There is no server in that path.
- Your audio is never uploaded.
- Your transcribed text is never uploaded.
- The microphone is only active while a recording is running, which you start and stop yourself. It is not listening in the background.
- If you enable History, recordings and transcripts are saved on your own computer, under your user profile. You can turn History off, or turn off audio storage and keep text only, in Settings. Deleting an entry deletes it from your disk. We never see any of it.
What actually leaves your computer
| What | Where it goes | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your email address | Our licensing server, and Keygen (our licensing provider) | To create and check your trial or licence, and to send you your key |
| Your licence key | Keygen | To confirm the licence is valid and how many computers use it |
| A machine fingerprint | Keygen | A one-way hash of hardware identifiers, used to tie a licence to a computer and to stop one trial being used endlessly. It is not reversible and identifies a machine, not a person. |
| App version and an update check | downloads.kokukeyboard.com | To tell you when a new version exists. Like any web request, this reveals your IP address to the server. |
| A model download, once | Hugging Face | To fetch the speech model the first time you choose it. Your IP address is visible to them, as with any download. |
| Payment details | Lemon Squeezy | They are the merchant of record and handle the purchase. We never see or store your card details. |
Diagnostic logs are opt-in
The app keeps a technical log on your computer: events and errors, such as "recording started" or "could not open the microphone". It records only the number of characters transcribed, never the words themselves.
That log stays on your machine and is never uploaded automatically. It is sent to us only when you choose to send it: in Settings → About you can write us a message about a problem and tick "Include my diagnostic log". If you leave the box unticked, only your message is sent. If you never write to us, nothing is sent at all.
Our newsletter
If you tick the newsletter box when starting a trial, or sign up on this website, we store your email address to send occasional updates. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete the address at any time.
What we never do
- No advertising networks and no advertising identifiers.
- No profiling, scoring, or automated decisions about you.
- We do not sell or rent your personal data to anyone.
- We do not read your dictation, because we never receive it.
How long we keep things
Licence and purchase records are kept while your licence is active and afterwards only as long as tax and accounting law requires. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove them. A diagnostic log you chose to send is kept only as long as it takes to investigate the problem, and no longer than 12 months.
Your rights
If you are in the EU or UK, the GDPR gives you the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to receive a copy, and to object to how we use it. Write to [email protected] and we will answer within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority; in the Czech Republic that is the Office for Personal Data Protection (ÚŠOOÚ).
Children
Kokukeyboard is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change what leaves your computer, we will change this page and move the "last updated" date above. Material changes will be announced in the app or by email.
